Paroma Sanyal

Paroma is a performer by passion and an economist by profession. She brings an unique perspective to dance as she began her formal Indian classical dance training after receiving her Doctoral degree in Economics.

She has trained under Mouli Pal in Boston, Chitra Krishnamurti, here in Maryland and is now a disciple of Sukanya Mukherji of the Mayur School of Dance.

Paroma's passion is to explore social issues through dance and to encourage the second generation of the diaspora to explore the rich heritage of Indian classical dance. She authors original scripts for dance dramas that delve into the traditional lores of love and loss and also contemporary themes dealing with gender and social equality. As one of the co-founders of Ta Thoi, she is deeply invested in using dance and theater to champion issues of social justice.
